Planting at the Dominion Flats in Mapua
For the second consecutive year Nelson Branch joined forces with their local DOC buddies and The Mapua Resident’s Association.
The team returned to an area of wetland known as the Dominion Flats in Mapua and spent the day planting young trees around the freshwater stream.
The area is now referred to on signage and by locals as the “Crombie Lockwood Block”.
The work is an important project in the restoration of the woodland and is aimed at encouraging the return of local wildlife and freshwater species to the area.
Al Check from the Department of Conservation was over the moon with the effort the team put in. He later emailed the branch saying, “On behalf of DOC, and the community I’d like to extend our sincere thanks for the work the team undertook. Another great job and excellent contribution to this important site.”
