Motorcycle insurance

We know that motorcycles in New Zealand are owned by those who love the freedom of beating traffic jams and the thrill of biking in our lovely countryside.

Whether you’re buying your first motor scooter or upgrading to your dream machine, our brokers can help you work through the right cover.

Insurance protects against something unforeseen happening to your motorbike, and can cover costs such as replacing your helmet, and repair for damage to someone else’s property due to an accident.

What does motorbike insurance cover?

Third party and comprehensive cover options are available for motorbike insurance.

  • Third party covers you for any damage you do to others and their property, with options to protect against fire and theft.
  • Comprehensive insurance covers injuries to yourself and repairs to your motorbike in the event of an accident, damage to others and cover for fire or theft.

We can arrange motorcycle insurance cover for all types of bikes including:

  • Scooters and mopeds
  • Cruisers: Harley Davidson, Triumph, Suzuki...
  • Sports bikes
  • Adventure bikes
  • Touring bikes
  • Classic and vintage bikes
  • Dirt bikes
  • Farm bikes

Our brokers will help you find a solution that fits the insurance risks for you and your bike.

Information needed for motorbike insurance quotes

Your broker will talk through what's needed to find you the best insurance solution, but most insurers will ask you to provide the following information:

  • the make, model and registration of your motorbike
  • the year it was manufactured
  • any modifications after manufacture
  • the value of your motorbike and the date you bought it
  • how long you’ve had your motorbike licence
  • any claims or convictions
  • any additional riders, including any claims and convictions they may have had
  • any special security devices you carry or have had fitted to your motorbike

Tips on keeping insurance costs down

Our brokers will look for the most cost-effective solution to meet your needs and provide you with the right cover. But when it comes to motorbikes there's a few other things that can help you reduce costs:

  • Maintain a good driving history. Some insurers give discounts for clean driving records.
  • Consider completing a defensive driving course. Riders with advanced motorbike qualifications could be eligible for lower premiums.
  • If possible, store your motorbike in an enclosed garage or carport to reduce the risk of theft.
  • Consider what you buy. The likelihood of theft is also taken into account by insurers, with some motorbikes more likely to get stolen than others.
