With the number of deaths, serious harm incidents and disease statistics New Zealand continues to perform poorly in workplace safety, placing it well behind other developed countries such as Australia and the United Kingdom.
The New Zealand Government has set a target to reduce work-related fatalities and serious injury by at least 25% by 2020 and its new Health and Safety at Work Act comes into effect on 4 April 2016 will add to the focus on reducing risks.
